About Us

Buyukkonuk village

The village of Büyükkonuk (Komi Kebir) nestles on the foothills of the Besparmak (Pentadactylo) Mountain Range at the start of the narrow panhandle of Cyprus. Although not on the coast,  the village can boast equal proximity to both seashores, only a few kilometres to either the northern rocky coast or the southern sandy beaches.

Traditional crops in this agricultural village include olive, carob, wheat, barley and some vegetable farming in watered fields. Dairy cows, sheep and goats are raised and most households maintain chickens and a household garden .

Forested hills border the village, filling the air with scented pine and wild herbs. Olive groves and other trees dot the landscape with different shades of green, while orchids and other wildflowers abound in season. Plenty of field tracks on the hills and flats areas, as well as  the absence of fences, makes walking and cycling sports attractive.

Delcraft

A family-run business that originally started in 2000 as a craft shop for local crafts, Delcraft later expanded to an activity centre for demonstration of village activities.

Contact Delcraft for accommodation as there are 3  B&Bs and the municipality runs wooden cabins in the village and we can help find you a room for a day or a week.

Special interest village activities

Special interest tours can be organized relating to cooking or crafts, individually designed to meet your needs.

Our most popular tour includes cheese and bread making demonstrations performed in an interactive setting.  You can get involved in shaping sesame covered loaves or firing the outdoor village oven and, of course, tasting the cheese and eating the breads that you make!olive bread ready for baking

This 3- 4 hour long tour is also available for groups and includes a full vegetarian lunch of local Cypriot cuisine served under the spreading branches of our mulberry tree.  It also includes a short walking tour around the village. Ideal for a group of friends, an office outing (team bonding) or for travel agents looking for meaningful eco-activities for their clients.

Costs

Everybody has a budget and we have a wide range of prices to suit everybody. For example, the cost of the activity tour and lunch mentioned above (until end of 2012) is 20 euros per person ( for min10 and max 25 people). This is our most inclusive and most expensive activity.

Many different cooking and craft activities can be organized…just ask us and we will help you find an activity at the price that suits you and your group, from young people to seniors. Prices can start as low as 3 euro and many rural activities like olive picking, goat or sheep milking, broom making or other traditional activities can be organized, depending on the season.
